[Grime, Club, Dub]
Starkey is the mayor of Starkville, which is entirely inhabited by
Starkbots, the robots he created. Starkbots are fueled by street bass
gritty beats with melodic tendencies. PJ Geissinger has been performing as Starkey for only four years...
...and has already garnered attention for his energetic live performances and original sound.
Starkey is co-owner of Slit Jockey Records, a member of Philadelphia's Seclusiasis and NYC's Trouble & Bass crews. In 2005, Starkey won both the North American and Mid-Atlantic Laptop Battles, in Seattle and Washington D.C. respectively. He was also featured in the Philadelphia City Paper's 2005 Spring Music Issue and awarded the Choice Award for "Best UK Grime DJ in Philly" along with Dev79.
In March 2006, London label, Werk Discs, released Starkey's debut solo release, "Local Headlines" (on 12" vinyl). In the past 2 years, Starkey has had a string of vinyl, cd and digital releases on labels such as Peace-Off/Ruff (France), Nonclassical (UK), Dead Homies (US), Starksound/Rag&Bone (UK) and LoDubs (US), with a release in the near future from Creative Space (Greece) as well.
Starkey has played alongside such notable acts as Vex'd, Plastician, Plaid, Airborn Audio, Digital Mystikz, Jamie Lidell, Lady Sovereign, DJ Assault, Styrofoam, Ruff Sqwad and more. Known for his extensive remix work, Starkey recently released his first mixCD "Street Bass Anthems Vol. 2" on Seclusiasis. This compilation style mixtape showcased a slew of Starkey's exclusive blends and remixes, along with tracks from members of the Starkbot extended family, in the street bass style.
