The Jinks (UK)
[House, Disco House, Afro-beat]

Fresh from winning the Mixmag Future Heroes DJ competition in December 2004 and taking 2nd place in the International DJs Raw Talent competition the next month, The Jinks, aka Chris Gau and Dan Savidge...

...are presently taking giant leaps forward in establishing themselves in the UK music scene.

Old friends Chris and Dan kicked off their vinyl addiction over a decade ago when they discovered their mutual love of all things funky. They began playing at bars and clubs all around London in the mid 1990s, supporting DJs like Terry Farley of Junior Boys Own and Mark Rae of Rae and Christian. In the late 90s they headed for the north, Chris to Manchester and Dan to Leeds. They made an impact in both cities, setting up a pirate radio station - Twist FM - in Manchester and DJing at some of the North's top nights, rocking dance floors with such legends as Marshall Jefferson, MJ Cole and Norman Jay OBE.

During the pairs' residency at Rough Hill, a weekly Funk night in Manchester, The Jinks began their first foray into the world of production, re-editing classic funk and disco records for their DJ sets. Seeing the ferocity with which punters lapped up these Jinks "remixes", they realized the potential for creating their own original dance floor fillers.

Having conquered the north, the pair returned south for a Friday night residency at London's now legendary Bar Rumba. After rocking Rumba for two years, the pair wanted a fresh challenge and decided to dedicate their time and energy to production. They have since built up a formidable recording studio, housed in various shady locations from the back room of Chris's flat in Notting Hill to their current abode, The Saga Centre in Ladbroke Grove. Situated right in the heart of West London's thriving broken beats scene, the Jinks have been hiding away, biding their time in their secret laboratory, cooking up eclectic and funky sets and digging into their soon to be completed debut album.

"Love Like This", The Jinks' debut single released on MN2S in June, was a huge success. Featuring Ricky Collins and including a Liquid People Dub, the single hurtled the pair into the spotlight and lead to further signings with the London-based label. Late 2005 saw the followup - "Inamorata" featuring Zodiac (of Basement Jaxx's "Red Alert" fame) - released to widespread acclaim, reaching #2 on the DJ Hype Charts. "Inamorata" saw The Jinks team up with several talented musicians including Reel Peoples' Mike Patto on keyboard and Tom "Ironlung" Ashe on horns. DJ Spen's two remixes were equally well-received and clearly demonstrated that The Jinks are fast-becoming a force to be reckoned with on the UK house scene.
